Classic 8-Bit Castlevania Possible Via Download Service?

OK you randy Castlevania fans, time to put down the tissues over the whole 3D Castlevania fighting game thing for the Nintendo Wii and listen up.  Looks like series creator and lover of the whip Koji Igarashi might be keen on not just revisiting the roots of the franchise, but digging way, way deep.  Can you say 8-Bit?

Thanks to the love fans seem to be showering all over Capcom's upcoming Mega Man 9 retro-redux, it looks like a true-blue, 2D pixel version of everyone's favorite Whip-Dracula-Game might be following suit as well.  As the man watches this experiment in fan-service closely, he commented:

"I'm watching that very closely to see how it does. Myself, I'm a big retro gaming fan, so if it is successful that definitely opens up doors for what I can do."

And of course distributing such a title would be via downloadable content, presumably for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and of course the Nintendo Wii.  Seems Igarashi thinks that while the Wii console is indeed selling (like hotcakes!), the true 'gamers games' are not.  Not sure if I buy that argument fully, as the Wii console has more than its fair share of million-sellers from the less-than-casual market...and let's be honest, the majority of software leaves plenty to be desired.  But that's just me.

Fascinating stuff!.  In fact, the whole piece is fascinating, and definitely a must-read for all you hardcore Castlevania fans.  Check out the whole interview at Wired Blogs!
