OK all you moc-up artists, time to cast out those 'old' Halo 3: Recon concept pieces, because Bungie just gave you something to do this holiday weekend. The previously announced Halo 3 expansion, once called Halo 3: Recon, has been rejiggered and renamed to the curious sounding Halo 3: ODST. What's an ODST? Here's the skinny, direct from the official Bungie Blog:
"ODST" (literally pronounced "Oh-Dee-Ess-Tee" and not "ohdst") is the acronym for "Orbital Drop Shock Trooper." This special forces branch of the UNSC military force is called into action for highly specialized, small scale operations. ODST units were deployed during portions of the Halo 2 and Halo 3 campaign and have also been featured in some of the Halo novels.
Mission received, and all traces of the previous whats-it-called have been replaced with Halo 3: ODST. Still no official release date, but the blog says Fall 2009, which seems about right.
