First of all, let me explain my on-the-fly coining of words (we all can't be Don King). We all know what a 'trilogy' is pretty much, don't we? Tricycle, triangle, trinity...all in all 'tri' = 'three', right? So what is a 'pentalogy', you ask? Same thing as a trilogy except instead of 'tri for 3' we get 'pent for 5'. Pentagon, pentagram, pentachloronitrobenzene...you get the picture.
So why does the word "Fable" representing XBox videogame series Fable precede the brand new word for '5 related but individual literary works'? Ask series creator Peter Molyneux about that one...
In the dawn before the sunrise of Fable II for the XBox 360 (October 21st), Peter Molyneux runs off more of his random thoughts in this leftover piece from the E3 2008 get-together 2 weeks ago. Two Fables and even three Fables are not enough for the hype-heavy game designer.
Fun quote from the above video which later sees Molyneux ponder possible work on a sports title:
"We've got plans for Fable III, IV, and V. It's a big story arc, and if you play Fable II, you'll recognize things from Fable I."
You only get Final Fantasy numeral status once you get the 1st three out the door, Mr. M. Beat the trilogy and you can have a forever series followed a Roman numeral. What is the world if without big dreamers?
