Harmox and MTV Games Announces Rock Band 3 Coming Later This Year
March 09, 2010 by spiffy

While the news of an impending sequel to a popular game is hardly surprising these days, there are still some franchises that demand more attention than others. Developer Harmonix and MTV Games have followed suit by announcing the expected release of Rock Band 3 , spilling the beans on the developer's official Facebook page.

Keep reading for more details about the impending release of the next Rock Band!

Here's the announcement blurb:

"Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

Other than the official announcement, not much else is known about what new features would make their way into Rock Band 3, or what new features will be included in the final release.

On March 4th Harmonix made the Rock Band Network available to Xbox 360 users, with plans to distribute select songs to PlayStation 3 and Wii users after a 30-day exclusivity period. The service, which allows subscribers to encode and distribute songs for play within the Rock Band game universe, may hold clues about where Harmonix plans to take the franchise, which despite releasing the acclaimed Beatles: Rock Band last year, has followed the music game genre's recent negative growth, and has even lagged behind recent Guitar Hero releases.

If history is any indication, look for Rock Band 3 to make its debut sometime around September, with the possibility of a staggered multi-console release afterward.
