Wow. Haven't heard from me here in awhile, have you? Well, this little bit of information I'm about to share with you compels me to return! Listen to this.
Now virtually official: Wii has outsold the NES! Wii has outsold the Nintendo Family Computer!
With the recent release of The NPD Group's December estimates (to be personally analyzed for Monday) this fact has been accounted for by everybody except for Nintendo's official announcement. Read on to learn more about this historic milestone...
Announced earlier on December 15, 2009 by independent videogame sales tracker VGChartz.com, the combined figures from Japan's Media Create, Europe-based GfK Group, and now U.S.-based NPD Group underline the fact that Wii has outsold the lifetime sales of the NES.

Selling a lifetime total of 61.91 million between 1983-1995, the Nintendo Entertainment System resurrected the collapsed videogame industry in North America and revolutionized the videogame industry throughout the world. Changing cultures as well as merging cultures, the NES became a vital component of the Computer Revolution which made these technologies central to people's daily lives. It has stood for decades as Nintendo's highest-selling home console...but at last Wii has surpassed this landmark in Nintendo's second revolution. What took the NES/Famicom 12 years to achieve, Wii does in 3 - a quarter of the time. Finally, Nintendo has bested themselves.
It was inevitable that this day would come with the unfathomable success Nintendo has had and continues to have with Wii. As its trajectory soars above the breath-gasping heights of Sony's PlayStation 2, the best-selling videogame console of all-time, it is only a matter of time before it claims that milestone as its own as well. There is no doubt whatsoever that Wii will be the best-selling home console of all-time. Only questions are "by how much?" and "when?"

They lied to us. The Revolution WOULD be televised.
Congratulations, Nintendo! And keep proving them all wrong.
