Kaz Hirai Declares PS3 Profitable by End of Fiscal 2008
July 17, 2008 by johnlucas

Kazuo Hirai, the man who made sure Namco's Ridge Racer legacy would live on through the end of time, updated the market gawking gamefans on the status of PlayStation 3 profitability in an interview with Japan's Jiji Press. Are you ready? You sure? Take a seat just in case.

He declares that the PS3 will be profitable by the end of Sony's 2008 fiscal year which ends March 31, 2009. Rather, that means the videogaming division of Sony allocated to the functions of the PS3 also known as Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.

You know Kaz has a little more info for you than that...

Going into detail with how this will be achieved, the SCE president and CEO admitted that the hardware alone would be hard to gain profitability but that the software and peripheral sales will take the division out of the red ink on the accountant sheets. He added that manufacturing expenses have been decreasing for the PS3 to help the black ink mission. This aligns with overall Sony Chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer's laser-focused aims to return profitability to the company's videogame and TV businesses. So far, the PS3 has built up losses of $3.32 billion for SCE in its near 2 years on the market.

Good luck, Sony.
