The Wii continues to prove itself a veritable NES revival, despite having recently surpassed Nintendo's famous home console, helping developers relive the glory days of 8-bit goodness with new versions of old classics. While Konami has held a virtual lock on the platform, particularly thanks to re-birthed issues of Contra and Castlevania, it looks like Sunsoft is back in action with a similarly refreshed take on the classic Blaster Master series with (what else?) Blaster Master: Overdrive for Nintendo's downloadable WiiWare service!
And the best part? Its coming out in just two days. Keep reading for more details on the return of Blaster Master!
Blaster Master: Overdrive is set to hit Nintendo's WiiWare service with the company's weekly download update, and sports completely updated visuals to go along with that classic mixed-gameplay that helped make the original game such a hit over twenty-two years ago (that's 1988 if you're counting). The official website is touting the upcoming release a direct successor to the original, explaining:
"Gameplay in BLASTER MASTER: OVERDRIVE retains the critically acclaimed format of the original NES BLASTER MASTER, alternating between side-scrolling platforming in S.O.P.H.I.A. and overhead-perspective blasting and exploration when controlling Alex. Upgrades for S.O.P.H.I.A. must be collected to access progressively more challenging terrain and a total of eight areas. Each area features a mutant boss that must be defeated to progress."
That same website is also chock-full of new screenshots, info, and more Blaster Master-style goodness that fans have been waiting a mighty long time for. Feel free to check out the goods for yourselves by clicking right HERE!
Blaster Master: Overdrive is set to steamroll the WiiWare service on February 8th, mere days away, for the low entry point of 1000 Nintendo Points.
