The Lego-branded Star Wars games have become massive hits and selling over 20 million copies across a variety of platforms since first debuting in 2005, demonstrating just how potent mixing Star Wars, Legos, and videogames can be. Now LucasArts and developer Traveller's Tales are looking to keep that magic going with the next chapter in the franchise, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars!
Keep reading for even more details on everyone's favorite blocky galaxy that's not so far, far away...
Based on the hit animated series, the next Lego-branded Star Wars game promises to let fans play as "either as a Jedi or Separatist with all-new character abilities, such as Squad command, Lightsaber slicing, Lightsaber jumps, long distance Jedi attacks and Grapple Tie-Ups, all within a new, easy-to-navigate hub." Look for popular characters Anakin Skywalker, Obi-wan Kenobi, Dooku, and others to make appearances, as well as new battle modes, features, and all the fun we've come to expect from the unique fusion of the Star Wars and Lego brands.
Says Tom Stone, Traveller's Tales director:
"LucasArts is an amazing partner, and working with them on the next iteration of the LEGO® Star Wars series continues to be a great experience...The team at TT is working hard at making this simply the best LEGO® game ever with all new gameplay and features never before seen in a LEGO game."
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars joins the previously-announced Lego Harry Potter: Years 1 - 4 in a year that's destined to be exciting for both Traveller's Tales and Lego, which also saw the late-2009 release of Lego Rock Band and the upcoming onlne MMO, Lego Universe.
No doubt that LucasArts is looking for the force to be with Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars when it hits the Wii, DS, PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360 and PC platforms just in time for the lucrative Fall 2010 holiday shopping season.
