Street Fighter IV Now Available For iPhone and iPod Touch
March 10, 2010 by spiffy

With the release of Super Street Fighter IV just weeks away, Capcom is celebrating a bit early and giving portable fans a taste of the action. That's right, fighters, the original Street Fighter IV is now available for your downloading pleasure on the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms!

Well, a version of Street Fighter IV, anyway, as Capcom clearly made significant cuts to get this thing running on Apple's (much) smaller hardware. While it seems they've done a remarkable job fitting the original game's incredible artwork and sound design in, clearly shrinking its intricate button scheme to the iPhone OS was a problem... because it has no buttons.

Keep reading for more details on shrunken World Warriors and instant-super moves!

A virtual stick will hopefully solve this problem, with major attack buttons reduced down to simple P (Punch), K (Kick), and Super (S) virtual buttons. Super Moves have also been mapped, although Capcom says they can be turned off in the options for the more dedicated fans to attempt on their own. The layout is also customizable, a good thing for those with fatty fingers who glide all over the tiny screen.

The roster is limited, and should remind fans more of the original Street Fighter II than the game its named for. World Warriors include Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Dhalsim, Blanka, Abel, and the bad-boss man himself, M. Bison. It's interesting that the only character from SFIV is the grappler Abel, but perhaps Capcom will update things in the future...or perhaps introduce an entirely new 'Super' version of the same game at some later date. Hey, it could (and probably will) happen!

With a new Dojo practice mode, amazing visuals, plus multiplayer over Blutooth connections on both platforms (sorry, no WiFi brawling here, folks), this could be one of the most surprising games yet for the iPhone/iPod Touch market. We'll have to review it for ourselves, but you can download a copy of Street Fighter IV direct from the iTunes store for $9.99. Get ready fighters!
