Shockwave Becomes Official Enemy of Transformers 3 - Full Details!
June 11, 2010 by spiffy

Despite raking in well over $800 million dollars globally and becoming last year's most successful movie in the US, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen wasn't exactly beloved by critics. In short, they hated it - or its director, Micheal Bay - with a passion often reserved for those with irrational agendas. But again, it made a considerable sum, and the third movie is already in production. While many had formulated the next enemy may be the giant planet-gobbling Unicorn, its looking more likely that Optimus Prime and Company will be facing off with another - and equally loved - Decepticon foe - Shockwave.

Keep reading for more incredible info on the return of Shockwave, as well as other plot details and descriptions about what to expect from Transformers 3!

USA Today reports that the third film will be a more focused, less silly adventure this time around. "One thing we're getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy," says director Micheal Bay, alluding to many critic's opinion that the second film may have had a little too much of the old slapstick. Although the maligned (and possibly racist) robot twins look to be gone, John Turturro is on board to bring his own unique style of comedy back to the show. Megan Fox, as previously reported, won't be joining this time around. Her famous ability to bend over and wear skimpy outfits, however, will be sorely missed.

What role Shockwave plays in all this should provide online ranters enough fodder to speculate until the film's release date next July. As the settled dictator of their original homeworld of Cybertron, the character has been a part of the Transformers mythos since the beginning, and fans of the right age (myself included) will no doubt recall just how amazing his actual toy - a working raygun with batteries - was to play with.

While the piece is light on actual details, it does state that the storyline will revolve around the Cold War-era space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA, which in true science-fiction terms could mean just about anything. As for the possibility that Transformers 3 would feature more Lazarus-style resurrections of previously dead popular characters (trust me, that makes total sense), Bay says fans shouldn't hold their breath, as this will close things out nicely. "As a trilogy, it really ends...I think is has a really killer ending."

After the mutation of leader Megatron from a single handgun to flying ship (equipped with multiple guns, ironically) one can only wonder what the new character design will look like. Fellow Decepticon Soundwave, also a favorite, was literally transformed from tape-deck into a global satellite for the second movie. Just don't mess with Grimlock and we'll be all set...
