Teaser Trailer For Oliver Stone's "W" Film

Update: Lionsgate has convinced YouTube to pull the clip.  Fair enough, as they own the thing.  But the commentary below (and after the jump) is still fresh and tasty.  Dig in!

Not sure how long this one will be up people, so if it's gone by the time you click above don't go hollering at us.  Oliver Stone's upcoming George W. Bush drama, aptly named "W" is set to debut theatrically just before this year's presidential election and give the troubled director his one last shot at messing with the 43rd president before he wanders into the sunset.  And by sunset I mean less profitable, as the controversial president has been a marketing boon to many in the novelty business, and I can't imagine that success carrying over to the next guy who takes the office.

I'm on record as getting a bad taste in my mouth whenever I hear this project mentioned, as I can't imagine a more poor choice than Stone to bring us this story, at this time.  Say what you will about any supposed liberal bias in Hollywood (its real) or in the media (its blindingly real), it would appear that on the surface, those opposed to all things Bush/Republican have been successful at characterizing the recent administration as virtual GI Joe figures.  As this teaser lays out near the end, showing their Hollywood-imbued faces as though its the next anticipated comicbook movie.

Yes it's too soon, but maybe it'll never be the right time for anyone of this generation (let alone someone as unhinged as Stone) to tackle the immediate legacy of W., or his rise to power in one of this country's most influential political families.  I suppose there are some of us who care too much about separating truth from opinion, and all the objectivity that is required to give posterity a fair chance to make up their own minds.  One look at presidential hopeful Barack Obama's first trip to Afghanistan - surrounded by throngs of adoring press and the most senior of reporters - should remind us that objectivity simply isn't as sexy as it used to be.  I'm not naive, but I'm certainly not going to rationalize.

I can't imagine who this movie is for, but I'm frightened to think of what a packed audience might sound like.
