A few years ago a friend tried their best to introduce me to the growing online addiction known to millions as Ragnarok. Having known my feelings (i.e. disdain) for all-things MMO, they foolishly thought that maybe this hand-drawn, free Korean-developed system would be the one that finally snagged me. He thought wrong, baby...wrong, wrong, wrong.
It may not be World of Warcraft, but to its legions of fans the online Ragnarok doesn't need to be. Cheap and easy (its free and the technology is ancient), the sensation leaves the sheltered world of PC-gaming for the first time as it ventures into the world of portable gaming on the (what else?) Nintendo DS this December in Japan. Mark those calenders, fans and foes alike!
No doubt I've offended at least several hundred thousand fans out there, and while I won't be locking my doors or taking out life-insurance anytime soon I will ask that all comments be threat-free or at least creatively worded. As to the game itself, no surprises that the conversion will be largely stylish-controlled, while GungHo Online Entertainment (the developer) plans as faithful a transition as possible. After all, who wants the good stuff cut cheaply?
1UP.com has all the skinny about bringing this world truly portable for the Nintendo DS, which I assume will result in both the apocalypse and cause frogs to rain from the sky. At the very least fans can finally stop feeling confined by the walls of their increasingly shrinking rooms and instead feel confined by the increasingly shrinking booths at their WiFi-enabled McDonalds. I wonder if I'll be more open-minded by the time this one hits retail...hmm...
