Bionic Commando Rearmed - 130,000 And Counting!

There's no time like the present - unless you're an insatiable retro-fanatic and yearn for the days of yesterday.  And judging by the numbers that Capcom's recent HD-redo Bionic Commando Rearmed put up, there's plenty of you out there.  Count us among the fans, as our recent Impression of the game was simply busting with praise, and its all well-earned.  The lovable but overly-confident Ben Judd over at the official website let it slip that the digital download title for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sold a staggering 130,000 digital copies in its first week.  Yowzers!

But don't let the bragging stop with numbers, as Judd continued to toot his the horns of successfully bringing a classic franchise to the HD realm in style and (of course) acceptance.  So sayeth the Judd-meister:

"We are tired of meta-emulated crap.  We want the titles of yesteryear to be paid the proper respect.  We want them done right.  And if the price is right, we'll buy." (source)

...could that whole 'price is right' be a subtle stab at the recent release of the Xbox-exclusive Braid, which despite amazing reviews (and its certainly an amazing game) sold less than 1/5 of what Bionic Commando Rearmed managed, despite having the ear of every major online resource and better reviews?  There was a flury of talk over Braid's "controversial" pricepoint, which in Xbox points translated into $15.  Many felt the price too high for a digital download, while others say the game's quality justified the price.

As someone who refuses to pay $59 for a new game (don't get me started on the faux Collector's Editions), I can see both points on the Braid issue.  For me I wish the price was lower, as the extra $5 seemed soley aimed at juicing those brave enough to plunk down some digital dollars, presumably to recoup development costs, even at the expense of possibly more sales.

But both games are great, and I highly recommend taking the plunge.  And for all you out there still moaning about the lack of "JUMP" on BCR...well, I agree with you.  Come to think of it, how come there weren't any magic mushrooms in Halo, or dragons in Grand Theft Auto?  Let's hope the next Tetris has more prostitutes, people!!

Heh, heh...
