R.I.P. King Of The Hill 1997 - 2009
October 30, 2008 by mruniversal

Thirteen is an unlucky number indeed for Hank Hill and the family, as Mike Judge's beloved (but apparently not beloved enough) King of the Hill animated sitcom is set to conclude its 13-season run.  Everyone's favorite propane salesman from Texas will move into that big syndicated television in the sky after years of memory making, with the remaining 13 original episodes to end suburbia's most thrilling saga.

King of the Hill has been something of an anomaly in the world of television animation, having outlasted much of its competition (oddly enough, most of which appeared on Fox). However, over the years the show has struggled to find its true audience and timeslot, having been shuffled about to different days and viewing times.  Although rare for its time, Hill showed remarkable staying power and is considered by animation fans a pioneer in helping normalize animation in prime-time, thanks to its realistic look and pacing - drawing parallels to the classic 1960s "The Andy Griffith Show" and its Mayberry citizens.

But don't feel bad for Mike Judge, who will be debuting his next animated show on ABC with "The Goode Family", which centers on a politically-correct obsessed family and should begin airing shortly.  Filling up at least part of the empty space left by the Hill family will be two animated shows on Fox, "Sit Down, Shut Up" from Arrested Development creator Mitchell Hurwitz and (yet) another animated series from Seth McFarlane the the Family Guy spin-off "The Cleveland Show".
