2009 so far has been good for Clint Eastwood - very good. Not only has Gran Torino become the actor/director/composter's highest-grossing film EVER, but MTV News just named what's perhaps his most iconic character, Dirty Harry, the #1 Cinematic Badass. But while we already knew that, a few choice comments Eastwood made while (begrudgingly) accepting the honor sent Harry Callahan Fans into all sorts of titers. While he's denied it in the past, when asked if there were any plans to resurrect the character for one more go, here's what Eastwood scowled:
"I'm 78 years old, and you're pretty well drummed out of the police force by that age...There could be a scenario. I suppose if some mythical writer came out of nowhere and it was the greatest thing on the planet, I'd certainly have to think about it. But it's not like I've ever courted it."
While that's pretty far from a confirmation, at least he's not ruling it out. The last five years have been the most productive for Eastwood, as he's been able to pump out an astonishing amount of what many feel is among his best-ever work. There's no stopping him, but what I wouldn't give to see him aim his Magnum one more time and blow a few holes for justice.
