BioShock fans, whether owners of an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or even the PC, can breathe a sigh of relief. After raising the question of whether or not the sequel, BioShock 2, would receive a simulatenous release on each of the systems, 2K has come forth with a final answer. According to CVG, a rep has announced that later this year, we can expect to see the long-awaited return to Rapture released across all platforms on the same date. Of course, there's still no set release date, but this announcement coincides with a couple other revelations as well.
The next expedition into Rapture has dropped its subtitle "Sea of Dreams," now known officially as "BioShock 2." No details have been given at this time regarding the change, but the good folks over at Primotech took some initative and contacted community manager Elizabeth Tobey for comment after noting the subtitle was missing in the latest issue of Game Informer. Tobey confirmed that the game will no longer be using "Sea of Dreams," effectively making future BioShock 2 articles 10 times easier to write.
But that's not all! Hit the jump for more that's making a, well, splash. Ha! Get it?
Lastly, the BioShock 2 news train makes its last stop in multiplayer-ville, as 2K has also seen fit to announce that, while multiplayer is still a viable option in the upcoming title, the word does not encompass a co-op mode. And why? Well, adding co-operative play would only make sense! That's why we can expect a watered-down multiplayer mode catering to kiddies everywhere who have grown up with their Halos and Call of Dutys exclusively.
A bit much to stomach for passionate BioShock 2 fans - what does all this mean? Most likely, the fact that this sequel may not be what has been floating around in our own "sea of dreams." While all console gamers (except for Wii owners) can enjoy the game at the same time while engaging in probable deathmatches, what will happen to the narrative and overall atmosphere? Looks like we'll have to wait until this fall to see what goes down.
