Debut Trailer For Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (DS)
September 16, 2009 by spiffy

If anyone happened to catch our recent review of the DS-exclusive first-person shooter C.O.R.E, you'll know that Popzara appreciates a good effort from dedicated developers. Its an exercise few are willing to undergo in this age of high-powered consoles and nearly unlimited storage capacity. Of course, neither of those advantages are with the aging Nintendo DS platform, which only helps make the rare technological achievement more commendable.

That said, the upcoming Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is easily the most visually impressive game I've ever seen on the DS, as though developer Big Blue Bubble has managed to squeeze previously unseen powers from the console. Why this game hasn't gathered more attention from the mainstream gaming press is mind-boggling, and while we'll have to wait until the final release to see if the overall adventure can live up to its debut trailer, what's on display is simply amazing.

Look for Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain to hack 'n slash your Nintendo DS this Fall!

Aspyr is not the developer, just the publisher (actually distributor because Big Blue Bubble has the Fighting Fantasy license). Also, there is no major gaming site or magazine that didn't report about the game.

Correct about the developer Big Blue Bubble, but simply mentioning the game hardly constitutes proper coverage. Most videogame media coverage seems to align itself more with respective PR campaigns than actual enthusiasm, which would explain the rather anemic coverage this game has received thus far.

To be fair, Popzara is often guilty of this neglect as well, but to our credit have always tried to champion the smaller developer who often takes the biggest risks in such a competitive environment. Such adventures don't necessarily guarantee better products (or in the case of C.O.R.E., better reviews) but the journey itself is an admirable one and should be respected.
