Nintendo DSi XL Hits North American Retailers March 28th for $189

Nintendo announced during this week's Media Summit in San Francisco their slightly-larger DSi XL, already a bestseller in Japan, will be hitting North American retailers on March 28th for $190.  That's just $20 more than the current DSi model, and two colors will be available at launch, Burgundy and Bronze, and each will come packed with pre-installed copies of Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock, as well as two free applications: the Nintendo DSi Browser and Flipnote Studio.  The console will also come with a second, larger pen-like stylus to help drive home the point that the DSi XL means business when it comes to comfort.

Essentially, the DSi XL is just a larger version of the already-available DSi console, which added two digital cameras, photo and music manipulation software, and the ability to download and play software through the DSiWare channel (like a web browser), and so much more.  The DSi XL adds more inches to the original viewing area, which Nintendo claims is 93% larger than those found in the DS Lite, meaning those who found the original screen(s) too small should have less trouble seeing the action, as well as a larger body for a tighter grip.  Reports also have the DSi XL's battery life as slightly better than that of the original DSi, which was itself slightly less than that of the original DS Lite.  Apparently, what goes around in Nintendo Land, comes around.

Is bigger necessarily better?  Find out when the DSi XL hits North American retail shelves on March 28th!
