Oprah Buys a Wii
July 31, 2008 by johnlucas

Not trying to give any publicity to that intrusive gossip/paparazzo site TMZ but this is the story so many have been waiting for. The cultural entity that is Oprah Gail Winfrey has been eyeballed carefully as the 'mainstream' (whatever that means) media outlet that will shoot Wii ownership through the roof, through the ozone I should say. A personal endorsement of, perhaps, Wii Fit on her heavily watched talk show could send the already Thriller-like phenomenon into a whole new dimension perhaps of the kind Stephen Hawking theorizes about. Even though Ellen DeGeneres has beaten her to the punch with widespread media notice somewhat in this realm, it still takes an Oprah to make the earthquakes.

Finally, destiny has happened. Oprah Winfrey buys the Wii. Details to follow...

The celebrity nose hair inspector TMZ follows the media matriarch around to Wal-Mart in Hawaii where they spot her, her bodyguards/security detail, and 2 children who were in her care buying a Wii and two extra Wii games from the counter. What 2 extra Wii games? For her or for those kids accompanying her? For Stedman? Use your imagination because those details aren't included. She was reported to be supremely friendly to the staff and even gave the salesclerk lady a hug before leaving with her assorted Nintendo products.

It remains to be seen if Oprah will show her Wii love (or not) on her show live but if she does, good God almighty it's all she wrote for this generation for sure! The word 'Nintendomination' may just end up in Merriam-Webster's lexicon instead of only out of the mouths of mind-blown game fans. Much respect for the insanely wealthy lady actually going to the store in person to buy the system instead of snapping fingers at her personal Jeeves to fetch her one as the old stereotype goes. And to a Wal-Mart no less. Perhaps she's still in touch with her poverty roots after all. Gotta give her cool points on that. Now DS's for every girl in your South African school! Chop chop.
