After the atrocity that was the Max Payne movie, many gamers seemed to believe the franchise was all but dead. A fair assumption - did you see it? However, fans of the series can now rejoice. Rockstar Games has just announced today that there is to be a third installment in the gritty detective series. Very little details have been announced regarding the upcoming chapter so far other than an extremely ambiguous release date of Winter 2009. Multi-platform owners can expect a simultaneous release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.
Rockstar founder Sam Houser prefaced the exciting announcement with a few words: "We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever." Hmm, shades of an older Solid Snake?
As long as this isn't the Mark Wahlberg variety of Max Payne, and a return to the series' classic roots, then fans (and newcomers to the series via the movie's popularity) will hopefully be in for a pleasant surprise. Expect more details as they surface!
