Contra: Rebirth Hits (Japanese) WiiWare Service May 12th!

If there's one thing that Nintendo's increasingly popular download WiiWare service has made possible, its quick 'n easy remakes of classic games. Just ask developer Hudson, who has seen their star rise as they've resurrected one classic franchise after the other for the Wii's Nintendo Point gobbling service.

Fellow Japanese developer Konami seems onboard, and what better game to remake/reimagine than the classic side-scrolling action-fest Contra?  Apparently someone thought so, as Contra: Rebirth has just been announced on the company's Japanese website, less than two years after the incredibly Contra 4 for the DS.  Not much is known, although according to the site the game will sport two-player action an, despite sporting some very Super Nintendo-plus quality visuals, should play similar to the NES classic.  SOLD.

More information about Contra: Rebirth as it becomes available.  The game hits Japanese WiiWare consoles May 12th, with a US release sure to follow afterwards.  Now the only question that remains...will it include the Konami Code?
