Elonex Introduces Wii + iPod Inspired iGAME Gaming Console
September 16, 2009 by spiffy

Since its arrival on retail shelves in 2006, few videogame consoles have enjoyed the type of imiative flattery of the Nintendo Wii. With competitors both foreign and domestic, it often feels that Wii-imitation consoles and/or devices appear daily, although none have managed to usurp the original in terms of style, substance, and (to put it mildly) success. But a new challenger has thrown their hat into the motion-controlled casual gaming ring, only this time packing not just a remarkable love for Nintendo's home console, but also looks to take a bite of inspiration from a certain Apple.

Introducing the iGAME console, a docking station unit that comes equipped with a Nintendo Wii-like motion-controller and offer compatibility with Apple's iPod family of devices. How the unit plays and stores games is a complete mystery, although parent company Elonext (considerably more respectable than your average knock-off company) hopes to answer these and other questions soon.

Elonext promises to deliver "an exhilarating experience like never before," with a platform that's not only great for children, but great for their parents as well. 4-players can participate simultaneously with games that promise to educate and challenge the whole family.

Using a full motion-controlled wireless remote that looks strikingly familiar, the iGAME console comes packed with six games that users can immediately jump into and enjoy, including 'tennis', 'bowling', 'trampoline', 'ping pong', 'darts', and 'firecracker'.

While the iGAME seems to put Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch front and center, its unclear how (if at all) the unit will interact directly with the portable platform's current and/or future line-up of games themselves. Currently, the unit's only real connectivity to the iPod platform (which also includes the Classic, Nano, and Mini devices) is to stream music, videos, and vidcasts direct from the devices.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the iGAME seems to be the network that Elonext is looking to establish for the device, openly registering would-be developers and programmers to help the interactive line-up grow and possibly earn a little cash in the process. Elonex states that all iGAME games will be sold through the official website or official retailers, with the developers earning as-of-yet unspecified revenue per title sold.  Unspecified seems to be the word of the day with iGAME at this moment, although we'll keep our noses to the fire and wring out details as they become available.
