Looks like it was only a matter of time. Over 9,000 Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children fan videos later, Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance will officially be contributing music to a Square Enix product - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete. However, he won't be alone. He's joined by the legendary Japanese rocker Kyosuke Himuro of the band Boøwy, teaming up to create a brand new ending for the movie, entitled "Safe and Sound."
This is very much out of the blue to me, though I can understand the fact that Square Enix must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel in order to connect with us Americans. Personally, I can't understand why Gerard Way, of all people, was chosen to head this project, but if Tetsuya Nomura approves, then I suppose it's not a bad decision.
Nomura has been noted as a big fan of Himuro's band Boøwy, but his relation to My Chemical Romance is still very much a mystery to me. Oh, well. At least the song will come in at the end of the movie, if it happens to be a terrible song.
