Sakaguchi's The Last Story Website Updates With Concept Artwork, Story Details

One of the most interesting titles slated to hit the Japanese Wii market this year is the mysterious new RPG from original Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi and his Mistwalker Studios. Nintendo is publishing his latest creation, The Last Story, and it looks like this once mysterious game just became a little less mysterious.

The official website has been updated with new story details, music, and (most interesting of all) concept art from the upcoming Mistwalker-developer game. With a tale that includes Lords, Earls, and plenty of strategic magical elements, it certainly does sound a lot like Sakaguchi's previous never-ending series of adventures.

There's plenty of mystery left for Mistwalker's The Last Story to unveil before it becomes available later this year. Check out the official website for more information, music, and gorgeous artwork right HERE!

OnLive Gaming Service Goes Live June 17th, During E3 2010

Some believe the future of the gaming console is, ironically, not a console at all, but an expanded platform that would allow full compatability for all games and for all users. Essentially, this sounds like the long-rumored 'one console' theory many have hypothesized about for some time. Imagine a world where it isn't necessary to upgrade your gaming console, home computer, or even swap discs (in any format) to play the latest title. While this may sound like fantasy land, at least one company is that much closer to bringing this dream closer to reality.

The OnLive gaming service, which uses clusters of cloud-computing to handle the most graphically intensive processing work, is finally set to release their work onto the masses this summer. June 17th, to be exact. Keep reading for more details!

If that date sounds familiar, it should be, as OnLive is timed to coincide with this year's E3 extravaganza in Los Angeles. After years of research and meticulous beta-testing, the company is ready to join the ranks of Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and countless others who have found both success and failure in establishing a new platform for users to experience the latest game titles. But as expected, OnLive is looking to - literally - completely change the way players experience their games. If successful, their model would make hardware practically irrelevant, and would bring even the most graphically-intensive, CPU-hogging games to those with capable internet connections and minimal hardware.

Those looking to join the cloud-computing revolution will need to pay $14.95 per month to access the service, which will allow them to purchase or rent games on-demand, as well as such staples of the online gaming community as gamertags, user profiles, friends list, and more. Future updates to the service will include features such as instant-play free game demos, multiplayer across platforms (PC, Mac and TV ), Brag Clips video capture and posting, massive spectating, always-updated games, and the ability to cloud-saved games-pause and instantly resume from anywhere, even on a different platform.

As hinted above, the OnLive launch will be for PC and MAC users at launch, as the company has yet to announce the availability of their touted MicroConsole TV Adapter, which will bring the service to compatible television screens. PC and Mac users will hav to download and install a small browser plug-in to get things up and running.

OnLive has yet to unveil pricing for game purchase or rentals, although users can look forward to plenty of options when the service goes live in June. Popular titles like Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Borderlands, Dragon Age Origins, and many more will be available to help kick things off. The company is planning to offer fuller details on pricing before E3.

But it looks like they won't be alone in the revolution, as at least one other company (most notably, David Perry's upcoming Gaikai service) is also ready to join the cloud-computing gaming revolution. Game experience for streaming services is said to reflect the user's actual location, in respect to available data centers, as well as the speed of their internet connection. Also left unanswered is the ownership of purchased titles through the service, which would effectively become unplayable once the user ends their subscription service. Let's hope these answers - and many more - are in store for the company's anticipated showing at E3 2010.

GDC 2010: Sony Makes Motion-Controller Official - Introducing the PlayStation Move

With so much speculation surrounding Sony's upcoming move into the world of motion-controlled gameplay, the videogame world has been on pins and needles about what the company had in store for anxious PlayStation 3 fans. At this year's Game Developers conference in San Francisco, the wait is over as they've finally lifted the curtain and made it official: Introducing the PlayStation Move motion-controller.

Keep reading for more details about PlayStation Move!

As many had speculated, the PlayStation Move controller will require the use of the already-available PlayStation Eye camera, meaning there will be several options for fans looking to get in on the motion-control action when the Move hits retail shelves later this year.

Sony plans on selling a PlayStation Move ultimate-bundle, which would include the PlayStation Move controller, Eye Camera, game console, and (possibly) a pack-in game to get fans accustomed to the new technology.

Sony is also expecting to sell a PlayStation Move starter-kit for less than $100 later this year, although they declined to say when that might be. Sony also introduced what many are calling a sub-controller, which looks and function much like Nintendo's own Nunchuk attachment, only wireless, and giving greater controller to the PlayStation Move and allowing more complex gameplay.

EA Sports Active 2.0 Coming To Wii, PlayStation 3, and iPhone/iPod Touch This Fall

Perhaps no other interactive fitness program has benefited from the wild success of Nintendo's extraordinarily best-selling Wii Fit as EA's titular EA Sports Active debut for the Wii console, which not only became one of the console's most popular third-party releases, but one of EA's fastest-growing new franchises. It even spawned its own retail store, and now its spawning something even more lucrative - sequels and new platforms!

Keep motivated and read more about EA's expansion to the Wii, PlayStation 3, and iPhone OS!

EA Sports Active 2.0 (tentative title) is coming back for seconds, and this time EA is sharing the fun across the PlayStation 3 and iPhone and iPod Touch platforms. While the original EA Sports Active took advantage of the Wii's native motion-controls, version 2.0 will feature new arm and leg straps fitted with motion sensors and new heart-rate monitor to measure the user's intensity throughout. Also new to the set will be an online hub to share and track progress throughout the workout period.

EA seems pretty keen on the new body-sensing innovations, saying they:

"will give users complete freedom of motion, making it even easier to get a workout that delivers great results. Using innovative heart rate detection technology, the heart rate monitor will help users monitor intensity, providing constant on-screen monitoring throughout the workout and tracking user data over time to optimize performance."

New EA Sports Active users should expect to find a considerably more comprehensive training program in the new version, including what EA is calling a three-phase, nine-week fitness roadmap designed to keep players focused and on track. PlayStation 3 users will be able to connect and download new workouts and exercises online, though no mention was made if Wii and iPhone users will have access to similar content. The original Wii version supported updates via additional purchased discs.

No mention was made on the availability of the new arm and leg motion sensors and heart-rate monitor, although its likely that EA will include them in a special bundle for Wii and PlayStation 3 users, with additional sensors available for the iPhone and iPod Touch versions.

No mention was made of an Xbox 360 version, or whether the game would take advantage of any native motion-controls of each console, such as the iPhone's accelerometer, or the PlayStation 3's upcoming motion-controller. Furthermore, no mention was made of Nintendo's own upcoming Vitality Sensor, which would measure heart-beats in a similiar fashion to EA's own heart-rate monitor accessory.

EA Sports Active 2.0 is scheduled to hit the Wii, PlayStation 3, iPhone, and iPod Touch sometime this fall. Better start limbering up now.

Street Fighter IV Now Available For iPhone and iPod Touch

With the release of Super Street Fighter IV just weeks away, Capcom is celebrating a bit early and giving portable fans a taste of the action. That's right, fighters, the original Street Fighter IV is now available for your downloading pleasure on the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms!

Well, a version of Street Fighter IV, anyway, as Capcom clearly made significant cuts to get this thing running on Apple's (much) smaller hardware. While it seems they've done a remarkable job fitting the original game's incredible artwork and sound design in, clearly shrinking its intricate button scheme to the iPhone OS was a problem... because it has no buttons.

Keep reading for more details on shrunken World Warriors and instant-super moves!

A virtual stick will hopefully solve this problem, with major attack buttons reduced down to simple P (Punch), K (Kick), and Super (S) virtual buttons. Super Moves have also been mapped, although Capcom says they can be turned off in the options for the more dedicated fans to attempt on their own. The layout is also customizable, a good thing for those with fatty fingers who glide all over the tiny screen.

The roster is limited, and should remind fans more of the original Street Fighter II than the game its named for. World Warriors include Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Dhalsim, Blanka, Abel, and the bad-boss man himself, M. Bison. It's interesting that the only character from SFIV is the grappler Abel, but perhaps Capcom will update things in the future...or perhaps introduce an entirely new 'Super' version of the same game at some later date. Hey, it could (and probably will) happen!

With a new Dojo practice mode, amazing visuals, plus multiplayer over Blutooth connections on both platforms (sorry, no WiFi brawling here, folks), this could be one of the most surprising games yet for the iPhone/iPod Touch market. We'll have to review it for ourselves, but you can download a copy of Street Fighter IV direct from the iTunes store for $9.99. Get ready fighters!

His name is Hakan, and this Turkish wrestler is anything but ordinary, yet plenty slippery, as he combines strength and unorthodox speed by oiling himeself up in generous amounts. It's a pretty unconventional match for fans to watch, but so is a large bronzed grappler the size of Zangief who slips and slides around like on ice.

It's a strange description without a doubt, so strange that only a trailer from IGN could ever do him justice, I'm not here to judge, just to report this understandably weird unveiling of the most shiniest fighter I have ever bared witness to, literally. Check out his first-ever gameplay trailer right HERE!

Don't forget that Super Street Fighter IV will arrive on April 27th for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

Harmox and MTV Games Announces Rock Band 3 Coming Later This Year

Developer Harmonix and MTV Games have followed suit by announcing the expected release of Rock Band 3 , spilling the beans on the developer's official Facebook page.

Keep reading for more details about the impending release of the next Rock Band!

Here's the announcement blurb:

"Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

Other than the official announcement, not much else is known about what new features would make their way into Rock Band 3, or what new features will be included in the final release.

On March 4th Harmonix made the Rock Band Network available to Xbox 360 users, with plans to distribute select songs to PlayStation 3 and Wii users after a 30-day exclusivity period. The service, which allows subscribers to encode and distribute songs for play within the Rock Band game universe, may hold clues about where Harmonix plans to take the franchise, which despite releasing the acclaimed Beatles: Rock Band last year, has followed the music game genre's recent negative growth, and has even lagged behind recent Guitar Hero releases.

If history is any indication, look for Rock Band 3 to make its debut sometime around September, with the possibility of a staggered multi-console release afterward.

New Tron Legacy Brings More Light Cycles, Action, and Young/Old Clu!

There was a time when many felt any further adventures into the Tron universe would be an impossible thing, as the original film, while highly experimental, was a commercial failure when it opened in 1982. But flash-forward some 25 years, and in this day of hobbits, transforming robots, and the Na'vi, perhaps there's room for a little more stylized light cycle action. In this day and age of digital acceptance, even impossible dreams seem to come true, because Tron Legacy is happening. Flynn Lives!

Keep reading for more, including the all-new trailer from the film!

The first real, story-packed trailer for the film is here, and from the first moment you see Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) dusting off the original Tron arcade cabinet to the fuzzed-techno beat in the closer, its pretty apparent that Disney might have something special here. Its easy to imagine how a younger generation, completely unfamiliar with these images and storyline will react to the mother of all cult-classic science-fiction impossibilities. As Flynn/Clu says in the trailer, "you have no idea."

With Academy Award-winning Jeff Bridges (feels good to write that) returning as the indomitable young/old Flynn/Clu, Olivia Wilde, and soundtrack by Daft Punk, there's no doubt that this will be this year's most anticipated movie for some of you reading this, if not ever. I want to stay completely neutral and not get my hopes up, but I'll be damned if they aren't doing everything right with this one.

Tron Legacy interfaces with your mind on December 17th. Check out the official trailer for yourselves right HERE!

Valve Bringing Steam To Mac In April, Portal 2 To Be First Simultaneous Release

With over 25 millions users in the PC market alone, Valve's popular digital-download Steam service is about to get a lot more popular. The developer has officially announced full support is on the way for Mac users, promising that both platforms "will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies" and more. Valve President Gabe Newell is touting the expansion, stating "the Mac is a great platform for entertainment services."

Keep reading for more about Valve's upcoming bite into Apple's Mac universe!

Bringing the Steam service to the Mac platform will allow Apple fans to enjoy native versions of the developer's most popular titles, including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, as well as the Half-Life series. The company has also announced that the service would become available to Mac users sometime in April, but did not announce an exact date.

Perhaps most interesting will be the implementation of Steam Play, which puts dual versions of compatible releases into the Steam Cloud and allow gamers "playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac," and hopes that future projects will take advantage of such cross-platform play.

The just-announced Portal 2 will be the first simultaneous release for both Windows and Mac versions of Steam, and is set to make its digital download debut later this year. All in all, this is great news not just for the millions of Mac users looking to get in the game, but also PC users, who will soon be welcoming a new flood of potential online friends and foes alike.

Check out the full press blurb below for more detailed information on Valve's upcoming venture into the world of Mac gaming:

March 8, 2010 - Valve announced today it will bring Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac. Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half- Life series will be available in April.

"As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients," said Gabe Newell, President of Valve. "The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services."

"Our Steam partners, who are delivering over a thousand games to 25 million Steam clients, are very excited about adding support for the Mac," said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve. "Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge. For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play."

"We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, Director of Steam Development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360.

Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."

Portal 2 will be Valve's first simultaneous release for Mac and Windows. "Checking in code produces a PC build and Mac build at the same time, automatically, so the two platforms are perfectly in lock-step," said Josh Weier, Portal 2 Project Lead. "We're always playing a native version on the Mac right alongside the PC. This makes it very easy for us and for anyone using Source to do game development for the Mac."
